The largest European lake of volcanic origins and fifth largest in Italy: from it emerge two isles: Bisentina and Martana, which can be visited with tours leaving the ports of Bolsena and Capodimonte.
The lake is distant just a few chilometers from Sorano and is surrounded by 7 towns which can all be visited:
Bolsena, the town that gave the name to the lake and celebrates the miracle of Corpus Domini Montefiascone, the town of “Est! Est!! Est!!!” Marta, main and active fishermen's port and town of the folkloristic “Barabbata” Capodimonte, on the picturesque promontory leaning towards the lake Valentano, with its wide view dominating the lake. Gradoli, on a tuff buttress inside the crater enclosure. Grotte di Castro, in time keeps the beauty of it’s medieval town. San Lorenzo Nuovo, the excellent example of an eighteenth century town-planning. Bisentina Isle, island of the Seven Churches. Martana Isle, the wild island of Queen Amalasunta.
